How Can I Use Social Media For Manufacturing Day

Manufacturing Day, MFG Day - organised nationally by The Manufacturing Institute - is the manufacturing industry’s biggest annual opportunity to inspire the next generation about the industry and careers in modern manufacturing - and to say: “Creators Wanted.”

As manufacturers and organisations get set to host MFG Day events, here are some ways Social Media can be used to advertise the event and raise awareness about who you are, what you do and how you do it.

The idea of Manufacturing Day is built upon community engagement. It is about you building a community around your brand or company, and the community then creates a sense of belonging and fuels brand loyalty. The members of your community are more readily to become customers of your brand and are more prone to provide you with honest feedback.

Social Media can help you EDUCATE the audience, ENGAGE with the audience, EXTOL your audience and your organisation, and EMPOWER the manufacturing industry.

Getting started

Before you can use any of the social media platforms below, you must ensure that you have business accounts for each platform.

If you haven’t got a business account for the social media platforms, here are the links to get you started, just click on the social media account name to follow the link. They are all free, so keep your credit card in your wallet!

Now most Manufacturing Day social media activity takes place on Facebook and Twitter, so ensure you have these two accounts first.

To create a business page, you need to have a personal account. You can set up the business page from your personal account dashboard.

Follow the instructions for creating a business profile. It won’t take you too long to complete.

As with the other platforms, LinkedIn needs to have a personal account before you can create a Company Page. Follow the instructions, they are easy to follow and it is easy to set up.

You need to have a Google account to create a Youtube account. Once the account is created, you have a little more work to do in order to upload videos, comments or create playlists. You need to create a Channel.

Instagram is a mobile app, so you will have to download the relevant app from the Apple app store or Google play store.

Once you have installed the correct app, follow the instructions to create your account.

The idea of using social media for your manufacturing day event is to: educate, energise, engage, and empower.

EDUCATE: on what manufacturing is like in the 21st Century. Educate on the day, time and location of the event.

ENERGISE: people into attending your event
